Over the last couple of months I have completed my EFT practitioner training and more recently done some CPD to update my knowledge in NLP. But what are these and how can I introduce them into both my hypnotherapy and counselling work?

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), uses tapping on various acupressure points on the body whilst focusing on our feelings and emotions. By doing this we are signalling to our body that we are safe and it helps us to experience acceptance of what is. By doing this we release these feelings and energy. This is particularly useful for clients experiencing trauma. It does not tap away the trauma but assists the client in accepting how they are feeling and releasing those thoughts and feelings. This is an amazing tool to use through the counselling process because if clients are talking about a traumatic event, we can calm down the nervous system by using the EFT so the client feels more able to leave the session feeling grounded and more in control. This also ties in with the polyvagal training I did last year. For clients suffering from trauma, anxiety, PTSD etc, we can work with the parasympathetic and the sympathetic nervous system so that we can safely open the client up to what they are experiencing during the session but ensure they are in a calm state when they leave the session.

NLP ( Neuro Linguistic Programming), works with our subconscious and our conscious mind to help us access more helpful states when we need to. For example, if a client came with anxiety about an event such as a job interview, it would be useful to anchor in a feeling of calm in which we feel grounded. When the anchor has been placed it enables the client to access that feeling of calm instantly when in that situation. NLP also uses the power of words which helps to drive the motivational centres of the brain into action.

Hypnotherapy can be described as a meditation with purpose. We positively influence the subconscious mind by bypassing the conscious mind. The benefits of all these modalities is to promote change and promote confidence in situations.

NLP and EFT techniques can be taken away with the client so they have tools to help themselves between sessions. If the client is coming for counselling, they can utilise the EFT if anything comes up for them before the next session and they need something they can use instantly. NLP gives the clients anchors to use when in that difficult situation such as a job interview, exam, help with overcoming a habit, anxiety, stress etc when the therapist cannot be present with the client.

If you would like anymore information about my work as a counsellor or hypnotherapist or to discover more about what these therapies can do for you then please drop me a message. Initial consultations are free of charge and usually take about 10 minutes on the phone. I am able to work both online and face to face.
